: I need help in Hobbes theory of obligation...do you have a moral obligation to obey political authority?
Hobbes says you definitely do. You gave up your rights to the government that rules you in exchange for your security and safety. You have no reason to rebel, since the laws and things the ruler are "right" by definition. In his views (i think), the "causes" of rebellious groups are mere cover-ups for their thirst for power, just as the "cause" of the US founding fathers was political freedom and equality (not that these are bad ideas, except that equality is unobtainable (i think), but they were also self-serving for our founding fathers). These "causes" also allow rebellious groups to gain followers who are convinced they require this cause.
