Before I take a GB workshop, I'd like to know something about its origins and its critical agenda. The few dribs and drabs I've heard about Great Books include the following: it's cool toward reader-response theory; it's comfy with New Criticism; it somehow burbled up out of McCarthism during mid-century. Any comments?
