: I just finished City of God a couple weeks ago. On the back cover of my book it says this:
: "His thesis is that Rome, as the earthly City of God, should bring together the revelation of the Bible, the wisdom of Greek philososphy and the honour an dignity of her own tradition, and so enable the members of her church to enter into the eternal City of Heaven through regeneration in Christ."
: What? Where did he get that from? I'm seems pretty obvious from the book that Augustine considered Rome the City of Man - due to it's worship of the pagan gods, etc. Do any of you all believe that the City of God, as Augustine speaks of, is Rome? Thanks.
