Reading through the posts on this site, I see a lot of posts from people who seem to be required to read a Joseph Conrad work and need to produce some sort of a paper from not having actually read the work that the papaer is about.
As a recent Joseph Conrad convert I can say that I love his work, but I think I wouldn't have had the same appreciation for it in before I was 30. So to all of you young people who have no time for Conrad now, sometime after your 30th birthday, wander over to the 'C' section of the bookstore and pick up one of his books like 'Lord Jim'. Read it at the pace it is suppposed to be read and just enjoy it.
Just out of curiosity, do any other 30+ year olds have an appreciation for Joseph Conrad where they didn't really appreciate him in their 20's or teens? My personal opinion is that you can't really get into Conrad until you're at least 30. Of course, there will be people who get into him earlier, but at the stage of life I am at now (33), I just connect with Conrad.
