Your question is premised on a false umption regarding
Calvinistic thought. Calvinism does not teach that a believer,
resting on the covenant promises of our Lord, can not have the
urance of salvation. To the contrary, Calvinism restored
Christianity to the happy position of relying upon the free
grace.
At any rate, the question of works may be answered as follows.
First, good works, if indeed they be good, are a product of
God's grace in the life of a believer, or the common grace
ociated with the "good works" of non-believers.
This is a turse explaination, but may be a possible starting point.
For Christ's Crown and Covenant,
Archibald Johnston
