: To whom it may concern:
: As I sat reading through some of my old lecture notes I was reminded of a certain Mr. Huizinga who acted the primary pundit of the view that the late middle ages, the northern renaissance, or the late gothic period, call it what you will, was a time of cultural decline. Now that, is the extent of my knowledge. Perhaps someone here can briefly enlighten me as to how he substantiates this rather bold statement. I haven't yet read his work
and have only been exposed to it through an architectural historian with a late gothic focus, so as you can imagine, the view is more than biased. Any response would be welcome.
