: Jane: : On the "thingness" of a thing, I believe H was referring to two issues: 1) A thing's essence, its defining qualities abstracted from its physicality. 2) its act of existing, of being as an act, its astonishing quality of being here, in the world, when it might just as well have not been here in the world.
