: I am doing an essay on Goethe Darwin and Nietzche. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to relate them all to their beliefs on World War II and how they encouraged it?
: thanks
All three of these great men were long dead before WWII so they had no beliefs on it. I am all to sadly aware that the s found ways to use Nietzche's philosophy of the 'superman' to somehow justify their murderous rampages. The great Goethe must have rolled in his grave thousands times over to see to what depths Germany fell when for nearly a half century he WAS high European culture.
Sorry, probably not what you were looking for, but I don't see a link b/w any of these writers and WWII, except where perhaps Nietzche was co-opted by some s and perhaps stretching Darwin's 'survival of the fittest' points as well. Goethe? No way. He died in 1832 and was in his 80's then. A great poet, dramatist, playwright, novelist, critic, essayist, philosopher, statesman (the small Duchy of Saxe-Weimar)and part-time scientist. KK
