As far I think it is all to do with mankind looking for improvement, for not being safitfied with their way of living. make the comparison with the chinees and ottoman empires in the 15/ 16 th century. They were quite satisfied with what they were. The western world wanted to improve their way of living. You can call it capitalism if you want. This way of thinking put the base for the industrial revolution which at his turn was the beginning for futher developments in science.
