: While perusing the fairest portion of volume one this : summer, an idea of salutory merit came to its rightful : place, or the forefront of my mind. Why is not Gibbon : used in public education as an example of proper : English writing and grammar? I say this because I have : noticed an immediate improvent in the latter, and hope : for a permanent influence from the first. I find the : more I read, the more influential Mr.Gibbon's work is : to my own writing and speech. Thus, since he grows on : one to this extent, I submit that his work, at least : volume one, should not suffer condensation, but be read : in its entirety, perhaps over a semester.
