HeyI'm so glad I found this page. I have to write an essay on Burke and his views on the problems of Individualism. My teacher gave me the Reflections of the French Revolution to read.
The book was heavy. It was hard to grasp some of it but I got what I could. Basically I need three arguements on the problems of individualism.
so far I have:
1. Burke felt giving us rights would be a waste, because we would waste them, and not know how to use them properly. Therefore progress would never come.
2. The rights given to us are to abstract. Our lives change everday and a right that is given to us today may not be useful for us tomorrow.
3. Giving us rights and freedom is an attempt to make out society a utopia. A perfect society which will never exist.
My paper is due friday. It's gotta be 8 pages long and I need a counter arguement for each and a counter-counter arguement for each counter arguement. And guess what?! I'm Lost. with the exception of a few ideas I've got nothing. Please, if someone could email me and give me some new ideas, or any additional info or links, or even tell me if I'm on the right track, I'd be very greatful.
Thank you all.
