It is my understanding that Descartes believes the senses are deceiving and that the only way to discern between what is true and false is through the employment of reason. I cannot, however, understand how this extends to the relationship between senses and ideas. I understand that some ideas come directly from God such as the ideas of God himself and of the soul, it being obvious that we cannot perceive these things that he holds to be so true. But I feel as if I am missing something in his argument and I cannot extract this piece even with multiple readings of his Discourse and Treatise on Man. If anyone has anything to contribute, I would more than grateful.
