: My English teacher asked our cl to look up why the Anglo-Saxons, who were at war with the Danes would include the Danes in the Beowulf text as a friend. I'm sorry. I've read the text, I've searched, and I've been online for the past 5 hours with no hope. I was hoping that someone in this discussion group could help me. I think I can get an extention, so time is not a problem. Thank you kindly. Kang of New Jersey

First, Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon poem, but there are no Anglo-Saxons in it. Just like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is an English play, but it is about Italians.
Beowulf is a Geat (no one is quite sure, but probably Geats were Swedes) and he went to help Hrothgar and the Danes. They were not enemies or at war.
So either you misheard the ignment or your teachers is off her trolley.
The best source of answers is Beowulfhall.
